A manuscript Apocalypse

Go to Blockbooks online resource

Bodleian MS. Auct. D 4.17 is a 'picture-book' Apocalypse produced in England, probably in the mid-13th century.
The connection between the English 13th-century picture-book Apocalypse and the format of the printed blockbook Apocalypse (for example Bodleian Douce 249, Bodleian Auct. M 3.14 and Bodleian Auct. M 3.15) was first discussed by Gertrud Bing, in 'The Apocalypse block-books and their manuscript models', Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, Vol. 5, (1942), pp. 143-158.
