HANDLING LIBRARY MATERIAL
Handling by staff and readers directly affects the useful life of library collections. Damage to books, maps, photographs, etc. is cumulative. Repeated poor
handling can quickly transform a new book into a worn one, and a worn book into an unusable object that requires costly repair, rebinding, or replacement.

Preserving the Library's collections is a huge task which relies upon the support and assistance of both staff and readers. In adopting the
practices in the guidelines that follow, you will be helping us to maintain access to Library material for yourself and others.
It will take approximately 10 minutes to go through these web pages. When you proceed to the next page by clicking the arrow at the end of this paragraph
you will be taken to the first page of the session. On this and subsequent pages you will see a list of topics on the left where the 'Reader Declaration' is on
this page. This is just to let you know where you are and to enable you to jump back to a previous topic if you so wish.
