Silverfish

{silverfish under the plastic covers of Baedeker travel guide}
This constitutes an infestation

{extracted silverfish from Baedeker}

This Baedeker volume was on a shelf placed under a leaky radiator – the perfect environment for silverfish. They seemed to be trying to feed off the paste used to adhere the shelfmark label.

Control
Control requires correct identification, surveillance, drying out the infested area(s) to below 65% relative humidity. Eliminate potential infestation sites by sealing cracks and crevices with putty or caulking. It is possible to remove them by physical means such as vacuuming. Infestations are usually treated chemically with a residual synthetic pyrethroid dust or wettable powder formulations.
