John Brand (1744-1806) was an antiquary and historian. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.
John Brand's own copy of his Observations on popular antiquities (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1777), interleaved with many additional notes and extracts. Many of the additions were incorporated in the 1813 edition by Sir Henry Ellis.
The volumes were bought from George Sexton of Brighton in 1941.
