John Byng, 5th Viscount Torrington (1743-1813) was a diarist. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The journals were bought by the Library, 1930, 1933 and 1960.

Bibliography

The journals were published as The Torrington diaries, ed. C.B. Andrews (4 vols., London, 1934-1938).

Physical Facet

All the volumes are bound in contemporary diced calf, with slight variations in style, rebacked. All contain a Torrington armorial bookplate.
