Biographical/Historical

Claude Reignier Conder (1848-1910) was a British soldier, explorer and antiquarian.


Scope and Content

Comprises: Facsimile of two sketches by Claude Reignier Conder of the valley of Dothan, 30 Aug 1872, and a letter to his mother, headed Jerusalem, 10 Jul 1872.


Location of originals

The original letters and sketches were bound into an album, which was given by Conder’s grandson to the National Library of Israel (formerly the Jewish National and University Library), ref: Archives Department V.1209.


Immediate Source of Acquisition

Passed to Western Manuscripts by the Department of Oriental Collections, 2011.
