John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland (1784-1859) served in the British army in Sicily, 1806-7, and in the Peninsular, 1808-10; he was minister plenipotentary in Florence, 1814-30, and resident minister at Berlin, 1841-51. See Dictionary of National Biography.
