Scope and Content

The journals for 1841-1844 are written on quarto leaves. They are continuous between 9 Oct 1841 and 15 Oct 1843, and have some entries between 20 Oct 1843 and 16 Jan1844. The journals for 1848 and 1851 (both written in The Universal Diary) contain shorter entries. There are no entries between 24 Jan and 28 Jun 1848.


Given to the Library by Ruth Davies and Jean Gordon, granddaughters of F.J. Furnivall, in 1990.
