Biographical History

Thomas Martin, 1697–1771, was a Suffolk antiquary and book collector. He was an influential fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

Scope and Content

14th- and 15th-century documents, including an inventory of Richard II, 1378, and Royal Household and Wardrobe receipts, 1431-61, collected by Thomas Martin, originally guarded into a folio volume, with later transcripts.

Acquisition

The collection was bought by the Library from Sotheby's, 26 June 1975, lots 2881, 2943-2944, 3021.

Custodial History

The collection was owned by Craven Ord, and was lot 1014 in the sale of his MSS., R. H. Evans, 25 Jan, 1830.
