Biographical

William Pegg was a private in the Royal Marines and served on board HMS Basilisk during the Crimean War. He afterwards joined a militia regiment.

Scope and Content

The journal covers Pegg's experiences on HMS Basilisk and recounts the manoeuvres of British ships engaged in attacks along the coast of Finland, then part of the Russian empire, during the Crimean War. The latter part of the journal is more domestic in nature.

Given by Jane Eady in 2017.
