Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872) was a collector of manuscripts and printed books. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.
The papers comprise insurance policies, 1817-57, related correspondence with insurance companies and the solicitors of Sir Thomas Phillipps, with a few papers of other members of his family, 1815-71.
