The Shelley family includes Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822), poet; his second wife, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797-1851), author; his grandfather, Sir Bysshe Shelley (1731-1815), 1st Baronet of Castle Goring; his father Timothy Shelley (1753-1844), 2nd Baronet, MP; and his son Sir Percy Florence Shelley (1819-1889), 3rd Baronet.
Literary notebooks and papers, correspondence and other papers, portraits and relics of Percy and Mary Shelley, with further materials of their family and circle, including earlier and contemporary estate documents of the Shelley family and related families, and later secondary materials.
Miscellaneous accessions added to the core collection after 1894 through gift or purchase from various sources, including the second part of the family collection from Boscombe, donated with further materials by Sir John Shelley-Rolls, the poet's great-nephew, through gift in 1946 and through bequest in 1961 after the death of his wife.

In addition, special permission is required to access major Shelley manuscripts such as the literary notebooks when these are otherwise available in published facsimiles.
