Biographical / Historical

Robert Southey (1774-1843) was a poet, journalist and biographer. His brother, Henry Herbert Southey (1783-1865), was a physician. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The papers were bought at Sotheby's, 21 Feb. 1927, lot 439, and given to the Library by the Friends of the Bodleian.
