Richard B. Brayne (b 1924), MBE (1957) was educated at Sherborne School and Pembroke College, Cambridge, and undertook military service, 1942-1946, as lieutenant. He began work as cadet, Tanganyika, 1948 and served as district officer in Tanganyika and the Tanzania Government Service, 1950-1964.
Papers relating to Tanganyika, comprising preparation for Princess Margaret's tour, 1956, Kondoa District reports and handing-over notes, 1950-1960, miscellaneous reports, etc., Mzumbe administrative training centre, 1961-1963, and correspondence.
The papers were deposited at the library by Brayne on long loan on c21st August 1967.
AccrualsAdditional documents relating to Tanganyika, 1934-1962, including letters home from Richard and Anne Brayne, 1949-1956, and a programme of Princess Margaret's visit, October 1956 were donated to the library by Brayne on 21st January 2002.
