Susan Collin Marks (b 1949)graduated at the University of Cape Town, 1969, and worked as a journalist, National Newspapers, Cape Town, 1970-1972 and a documentary filmmaker, London, 1973-1985. She gained an MA in International Relations at the University of Kent at Canterbury, 1988 and was Senior Researcher, Centre for Conflict Resolution, Cape Town, 1988-1994. She was Senior Peace Fellow, United States Institute of Peace, Washington DC, 1994-1995 and became Executive Vice President, Search for Common Ground, Washington DC in 1996. From 1991 to 1994 she served as Senior Committee Member, Regional Peace Committee, and mediator, facilitator and crisis intervener, National Peace Accord, South Africa. She was awarded a Jennings Randolph Peace Fellowship to the United States Institute of Peace in 1994, was [in 2003] co-founder and board chair of The Coexistence Initiative, executive board member of Women in International Security, board member of Global Action at the Union of Concerned Scientists, and Senior Associate of the International Conflict Resolution Program at Columbia University. She is the author of Watching the wind: conflict resolution during South Africa's transition to democracy (Washington DC; United States Institute of Peace Press; 2000).
