Antony G. Eyre was born in 1921 and educated at King's School in Canterbury; and Trinity College, Oxford. He was on military service during 1941 to 1942 (2nd lieutenant).
In 1942 Eyre entered the Colonial Administrative Service as a cadet. He was posted to Nigeria where he later held the post of Clerk to the House of Chiefs (1947). In 1955 he transferred to the Education Service; he was appointed Senior Education Officer in 1958 (-1960).
