Dr. James Clyde Mitchell (1918-95) was Director of the Rhodes Livingstone Institute (1952-5), Professor of African Studies and Sociology at the University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland (1955-65), Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Manchester (1966-73) and Fellow of Nuffield College Oxford (1973-85).
