J. Michael Popkin was born in 1920 and educated at St. Edmund's School in Canterbury, and St. Catharine's College, Cambridge. He was on military service between 1940 and 1944. In 1947 Popkin was appointed as an Education Officer in Kenya, he became Senior Education Officer in 1961 (-1964).
Correspondence, articles, statistics, photographs, etc., on the development of colonial education in Kenya, 1946-1964. Including sketch of Government African School at Nandi by Peter Sanderson (Education Officer, Kenya), 1951, with accompanying explanatory notes by Popkin.
