4 Mar. 1809 Shelfmark: MSS Afr. s. 2446 fols. 2-3 Extent: 2 folios Scope and Content: States that he understood employees of the Sierra Leone Company to have been taken into Government service on the same terms of employment as under the Company and that this included entitlement to a free passage home. If the Governor refuses to pay the passage of any entitled to it advises that an application be made to the Court of Directors of the Sierra Leone Company. |

The multiplicity of business in the Court at the time and the disorder following Captain Columbine's assumption of the Government during Thompson's serious illness would explain the misplacing of the paper. |

Is unable to depart from England so soon but when he does return to Sierra Leone would prefer to be in Macaulay's service, as success in Government employment depends so much upon party or Colonial politics. 28 Aug. 1811 (Reply to folio 8) Greatly regrets that he is unable to accept such an attractive situation but family affairs prevent him from departing so soon. |
