The Montagu collection was bequeathed to the Library by Captain
Montagu Montagu, Royal Navy, after his death in 1863. The collection of
manuscripts, largely autographs acquired from the Upcott and Wilson sales, and
about 600 printed volumes were received by the Library chiefly in April
1864.
