Biographical History

Henry Edward Duke, 1st Baron Merrivale (1855-1939), was a judge and politician. He was Member of Parliament for Plymouth, 1900-1906, and for Exeter, 1906-1918. He was made a Privy Councillor, 1915, and after the Easter Rising, became Chief Secretary for Ireland, 1916-1918.

The papers in this collection comprise correspondence and papers of Merrivale as Chief Secretary for Ireland, with some related earlier and later papers, 1915-1919
