Ian Hamilton (1938-2001) was a British literary critic, biographer, poet, editor and publisher. Jerome David Salinger (1919-2010) was an American writer well known for writing The Catcher in the Rye.

Scope and Content

Ian Hamilton, J.D. Salinger: A Writing Life, photocopy of an uncut typescript of Hamilton’s biography; this version prohibited from publication by Salinger during his lifetime. Hamilton’s account of his research was published in 1988 under the title In Search of J.D. Salinger.
