Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935), was an archaeologist, soldier and author. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography. Charlotte Frances Shaw (d. 1943) was the wife of George Bernard Shaw.

In 1927 Lawrence gave his book, 'Minorities', to Mrs. Shaw, who gave Lawrence her book at the same time. Mrs. Shaw gave 'Minorities' to J.G. Wilson (Lawrence's executor) in 1940. In 1960 Wilson sold both volumes to W.M.L. Escombe.
Immediate Source of AcquisitionW.M.L. Escombe bequeathed the volumes to the Library, where they were received in 1974.
