James Blair Leishman (1902-63) was a scholar. He was University Lecturer in English Literature, Oxford, from 1946. His publications included translations from the German poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926). Details are given in Who Was Who.

• Translations from the poems of Friedrich Hölderlin
• Miscellaneous papers, including notes for and fair copy of the introduction to Translating Horace (Oxford, 1956); material for the Penguin edition of Rilke, Selected poems (London, 1964); and fair copy of an article on Rilke for Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1963.

The papers were given to the Library by Leishman's literary executors in 1964.
