Biographical History
Antony Patrick MacDonnell, 1st Baron MacDonnell of Swinford
(1844-1925) was a civil servant. He was in the Indian Civil Service from 1865
to 1901, serving in the Bengal government, rising to become acting
lieutenant-governor of Bengal, 1893, member of the viceroy's council, 1893–5,
and lieutenant-governor of the North-Western Provinces and chief commissioner
of Oudh, 1895–1901. He served as Under-Secretary for Ireland 1902-8. For
