Biographical / Historical

The Oxford Diabetes Trust was a charitable trust established in 1981, with funding from Sheikh Rashid bin Said al-Maktoum, to develop and extend research into diabetes and allied metabolic diseases. The trustees used the benefaction to set up the Sheikh Rashid Diabetes Unit in the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, with Derek Hockaday as director. The Trust was wound up in 1999 and the remaining funds were passed to the University and renamed the Sheikh Rashid Diabetes Fund.
