The Oxford Society was founded in 1932 as an organization of former and present members of the University of Oxford with the aim of promoting the interests of the University as well as keeping its members in touch with each other and the University. In 2004 the Oxford Society together with the Helmore Fund formed the Oxford University Society and as such became the Oxford University's official alumni organization. Chancellors of the University are Presidents of the Society. It has branches all over the world. The Society’s magazine Oxford today (formerly Oxford) is published three times a year. The collection includes minutes of meetings (held predominantly in London) of the Executive Committee of the Oxford Society from its beginnings up to May 1988, minutes of Annual General Meetings and Council Meetings (1933-69), minutes of several sub-committees (mainly Subscription, Recruitment and Appeal sub-committees, 1940-70) and minutes of the London [Branch] Committee (1934-7). All are signed and sometimes corrected by their respective chairmen. Also, there are papers relating to the work of the Executive Committee, covering the early history of the Society, and the expansion of its membership and activities.
Reports of the Executive Committee to the 1st-5th General Meetings (1933-7) published for the Society are bound under the Bodleian shelfmark Per. G.A. Oxon 8° 1103.
Additional papers (correspondence, agendas, dinner menus etc.) are kept in the Bodleian Library, shelfmark G.A. Oxon 4° 592.

The Minutes also contain additional material interpolated where appropriate and include reports from the Society's Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Sub-Committees, and some promotional material. However, this is not consistent and appears less frequently at later dates.
