Biographical History

Irene Ward (1895-1980) was MP for Wallsend, 1931-45, and Tynemouth, 1950-74. She was created Baroness Ward of North Tyneside in 1974. For further details see the Dictionary of National Biography.

Scope and Content

Personal and political papers of Irene Ward, Baroness Ward of North Tyneside including correspondence and papers chronicling her career as one of the first women Conservative MPs, a campaigner for equal pay for women and renowned back-bench figure. Included are some family papers and photographs as well as miscellaneous printed memorabilia and ephemera.
