Papers of E.J. 'Timber' Wood relating to the Horn of Africa

Biographical / Historical

Edward Joshua Wood, known as Timber, served in the Grenadier Guards before working for Essex and Glamorgan Police Services from 1932 until 1938. After war-time service in the army he joined the military administration in the Dodecanese in 1946 where he worked in the prisons service. He transferred to the Eritrea Police Force in May 1947 and served until October 1950, being seconded to British Somaliland for some months in 1948. From October 1950 until July 1956 Wood worked for the Desert Locust Service in East Africa.
