AN INTRODUCTION TO CUMNOR PARISH RECORD

Cumnor Parish Record is an archive. The Record is under the ęgis of Cumnor & District History Society, but with its own chairman. It was established to conserve material and information about the parish, its past and environment, and to make that information accessible for research.

The Record includes collections of photographs, books, personal memories, and transcriptions of documents such as wills, charters, lay subsidies, rent books, census returns, manorial court rolls, etc. These have been gathered by History Society members for many years, from many sources, and represent a good resource for further family and parochial history research.

This website now contains a strong selection of the documentary material in the Parish Record. The full Record is indexed on a database, but since the sad loss of its founder, John Hanson, little new material has been placed online.

JOHN HANSON

John is well known in the Oxford area for his historical and community works.  He has done more than anyone to establish and maintain the Cumnor Parish Record and prepare the content for this website.  It is with great regret and sadness that we must announce his sudden passing away on 4th December 2007.  He will be missed by many.  Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Pat, and family.

"John Hanson: 1931-2007", an obituary written by Philip Hawtin which first appeared in the February 2008 issue of Cumnor Parish News.
