35mm colour film imagesThe Bodleian Library publishes over 30,000 images on 35mm. colour film, mostly from medieval illuminated manuscripts. About 1,400 are sold as individual slides ('Series B'); the rest are grouped in selections on unmounted rolls ('Filmstrips'), suitable for mounting at home. Most filmstrips are accompanied by a descriptive handlist. There is a list of colour film images of maps. NOTE: All Bodleian slides and filmstrips are copyright. No reproduction may be made without permission being obtained in advance. |

1. Scan the shop display. A selection of the individual Series B slides is on display in the shop (under the North window). If you see a slide you want, note the 'B'number and ask for it at the shop counter. This is the quickest way to buy a slide, but please remember that only a small selection of the total stock can be displayed at any one time |

2. Choose from the catalogues. There are separate catalogues for Series B slides and for Filmstrips. The Series B list is arranged only by shelfmark: useful if you have a specific reference, but you will have to browse through it for subjects. The larger catalogue of Filmstrips includes separate indexes of shelfmarks and of subjects, but these cover the overall filmstrip selections rather than individual images. Copies of both catalogues may be bought at the counter, and reference copies are also available, together with a draft subject- list of slides |

3. Visit the search room. Any visitor, whether or not they hold a Bodleian Reader's Ticket, is welcome to visit the reference collection of filmstrips and slides in the Clarendon Building (first floor, Room 210). This contains consultation copies of all the images, together with many finding aids, including a full iconographic card index. Please ask the counter-staff or a Library porter to contact Mrs. Rigmor Båtsvik in the Clarendon Building for an appointment; or you are welcome to telephone her yourself at (+44) 01865 277214 or 277153. |
