MapLists 3 onwards can be downloaded in pdf format.

Maplist 1 : A List of Ordnance Survey District, Special and Tourist Maps 1861-1939 by Nigel James.
Price: £3.50 including postage in the UK.

The Ordnance Survey produced a series of special district maps to accompany the various one-inch map series. This publication lists all the special, district and tourist maps in the collection, from the earliest (London and its Environs, 1861) to the colourful Tourist Maps of Snowdonia, the Lake District, and other popular areas. Other special maps include the Cotswold Hunt Map of 1903, showing the hunt boundaries, and an unusual map of Aldershot Barracks, printed on india-rubber, so it was waterproof and could be rolled for carrying on a horse!

Maplist 2 : A List of Ordnance Survey Catalogues, Publication Reports & other Publications by Nigel James.
Price: £3.00 including postage in the UK.

In addition to the extensive collection of Ordnance Survey maps, the Map Room has a large collection of catalogues and other ephemera. The oldest catalogue in the collection was issued in 1862 and contains hand-coloured indexes to the Ordnance Map of England. Similar catalogues were issued for the Scottish and Irish surveys, together with descriptive booklets for each of the map scales. Publication reports, ranging from weekly to annually, record the progress of the survey.

Maplist 3 : A Selected List of Estate and Parish Maps up to 1850 in the Bodleian Library

Compiled by Nigel James 2004.
Revised 2007

Download here in pdf format.

This list of early estate, parish and other large-scale property or garden etc. surveys (not street maps) has been compiled from catalogue records in the map catalogue.

The list groups records by pre-1974 counties, enabling easy reference to the extent of holdings for a particular area.

The list covers England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Maps are listed alphabetically by place-name within each county. Multiple entries for a named place are listed chronologically, as are the maps of London (City and County).

The list is fully indexed by town/village, farm, estate, etc. names.

Each entry contains the following information (where known):

Title of map.
Surveyor.
Engraver.
Date (usually of survey).
Scale.
Source.
Publication date for printed maps if different from date of survey.
Shelfmark.

Maplist 4 : Ordnance Survey County Series Maps in the Bodleian Library. Missing and out-of-sequence maps and other anomalies: England and Wales

Compiled by Alex Zambellas 2010

Download here in pdf format.

This is not, in the main, a list of the Bodleian Library’s
large-scale OS holdings (the County Series), but a list of missing sheets.
These aside, our holdings should be complete.

For information on what the OS published in the County Series, and for county-by-county survey and revision dates, see the OS Index Atlas (reprinted by David Archer Maps: http://www.david-archer-maps.co.uk) and Richard Oliver’s OS Maps: A Concise Guide for Historians (The Charles Close Society, London, 2005; ISBN 1-870-59824-5). The few lists of Bodleian holdings that are included below cover scales, series or revisions of the same era not covered by these two publications, for example the 1:1250s and various anomalous sheets.
