Alpha Command and Control Information System WWW server has maps, images, and other information.
Avis Maps
is a collection of road maps (currently the US but coverage will be expanded) which can be downloaded and printed for personal use.
Brock University Map Library - You can find indexes to their map coverage and an electronic Census Atlas of Niagara.
CIA World Factbook 1996 Reference Maps are now online. These are some nice colour world and regional maps which can be downloaded in TIFF (or if you have a fast link!) PDF formats.
Catalan Atlas - Images from the 14th century Catalan Atlas in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
Hydrographic Atlas of the Southern Ocean

Color Landform Atlas of the United States includes landforms, state maps from 1895, satellite images and more.

DeLorme Mapping - an excellent page, with demos and technical info. Their regularly updated maps of areas in the news are worth a look.
Earth Viewer - A real-time world map showing daylight and darkness
Harvard Map Collection - now on-line.
Heritage Map Museum In the Amish community of Lititz, Pennsylvania USA, an interesting web site which has images of 15th to 19th century maps.
Historic Maps of Dutch Cartographers - A selection of maps by Blaeu, Jansson, Colom et. al.

This site has text, graphics and digital maps.
James Ford Bell Library's Historical Map Collection - Monochrome images of early maps and charts.
Magellan Geographix Online Atlas has good quality watermarked GIF maps at world, country, region and city levels.
MapQuest is an online mapping site which creates personalised maps (by address in London and the US).
National Geographic Society Maps, articles and plenty of nice graphics. You will need Netscape Navigator 3 or MS Internet Explorer to get the best from it.
Out of This World - an exhibition of rare books from the collection of the Linda Hall Library, featuring celestial atlases.
Oxford University Computing Laboratory - Maps of Oxford, London, Europe and the world in GIF format, including pictures and info.
Ryhiner Project - At the Municipal and University Library of Berne (StUB), Switzerland this site has an online catalogue and images from the collections of 16th - 18th maps. It includes useful bibliographical records as well.
UK Street Map Page has street maps of London and detailed road maps of the whole UK, together with a gazetteer function.
UNEP/GRID-Arendal - If you need maps and GIS datasets for Europe, the Arctic and the Baltic Sea area, check out this site where you will find downloadable maps and datasets, together with links to other related sites.
Xerox PARC Map Viewer - Create basic maps of anywhere in the world. Maps are in GIF format and show details such as coastlines, boundaries and rivers.
World of Maps is a Swiss site with thematic and historical maps, links and information on Swiss cartographic publications.

Earth From Space has sixteen images in GIF and JPG formats taken from various spacecraft.
RSD/MAPB/GLOBE Server (NASA) - At NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Have a look at this site for remote sensing.
Univ of Wisc-Madison Space Science & Engineering Center - Another remote sensing site worth checking out.


Gazetteers

Australian Geographic Place Names (Gazetteer) - Searchable by place name, place type and region.
Canadian Geographic Names - current Canadian placenames with basic location maps as well.
Canadian Historic Names - Historic Canadian placenames.
GEOnet Names Server has 3.3 MILLION placenames! (outside of the USA). This is the best gazetteer to try for worldwide searches.
Ordnance Survey Gazetteer of Place Names - is now is also available online, at the BT CampusWorld site.
Tiger Mapping Service (US Bureau of the Census] - A range of services are here, including a comprehensive gazetter of the U.S. which generates neat GIF maps on the fly. To use the gazetteer option, go straight to the US Places File

Astronomical Museum at the Universita di Bologna has a wealth of information on astronomical observation, including celestial charts. Take a look at the Globe Room which has some nice gifs of early globes and armillery spheres.
British Library is now online. The Map Library has its own web pages, with examples for the collections.
Brock University Map Library - You can find indexes to their map coverage and an electronic Census Atlas of Niagara.
Exploring the West from Monticello: A Perspective in Maps from Columbus to Lewis and Clark is a new website by The Special Collections Department of the University of Virginia Library. The exhibition shows the evolution of cartographic knowledge of North America up to the time that Lewis and Clark set out on their exploratory journey. Most of the materials in the exhibition are from the map collections of the Tracy W. McGregor Library of American History.

Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research - data and images about ozone holes, meteorology and other features of the Arctic and Antarctic regions and seas.
Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion(tm) Air-Ocean World Map on the Fuller Projection uses a icosahedron to depict the world with barely any distortion. There is more information at the Synergetics on the Web site.
