John Watkinson. Grocer, Tea Dealer. Newbrough, Scarbrough (c. 1750)
John Watkinson’s list, gives a breakdown of the principal areas of his
trade as a ‘grocer’ and ‘tea-dealer’ and shows the range of products
which his customers could expect to find on shelves in the 1750s, among them gun
flints and gunpowder, stationery and drugs. Scarborough was in a favoured
coastal position to receive imports.
