Lane’s Telescopic View of the ceremony of Her Majesty Opening the Great Exhibition of all Nations. Designed by Rawlins (1851)

Peep shows were produced in great numbers in the mid-19th century for events or phenomena such as the Lord Mayor’s Show and the Thames Tunnel. Through the peep-hole can be seen the opening ceremony in the main Avenue of the Great Exhibition with Messrs. Seeley & Co.’s Fountain (designed by J.W. Papworth) and one of the trees around which the Crystal Palace was built.
