The Crystal Palace Rose
Retailing at a shilling, rose souvenirs were not cheap. Each die-cut rose
unfolded to reveal fine steel engravings arranged on both sides in concentric
circles. The subjects were mostly topographical. The roses were published by
Joseph, Myers, & Co. but printed by C. Adler of Hamburg. The popularity of
the form was such that other publishers produced similar souvenirs in the form
of passion flowers, bouquets, etc.
This Crystal Palace Rose survives intact with its envelope and
advertisement listing the subjects of other roses.
