The March of Machinery

A satirical print showing a chimney sweep carelessly carrying his brush. These stiff brushes on jointed rods were introduced in 1805. The Dean family of printers operated from 1814 (Mary Anne Dean) until 1871. Thomas Dean & Co. was their imprint in Threadneedle Street from 1843 to 1847, after which it was T. Dean & Son. The family moved to Ludgate Hill in 1856.
