William Mole. Manufacturer of Figures, Arms, Crests, Inkstands, Candelabras,
Lustres, Girandoles, Pastillers… (c. 1830)
William Mole’s card shows a strikingly decorative display of ornamental
objects or Birmingham ware. This card also appears as a plate in Wm. West’s
Birmingham Directory (see no. 264), where his entry is given as: ‘Mole,
William, bronze inkstand, lamp & lustre taper stand, and incense burner, and
candlestick &c, manufacturer, 21, Paradise-st.’ Pastilles were little
rolls of aromatic paste, which would be burned in a pastiller to give off a
pleasant fragrance.
