Wise’s Foreign China Warehouse. Oxford (before 1828?)
This trade card is interesting not only because of its evidence of an
oriental influence on Oxford commerce in the early 19th century, but
also because the card was lithographed by Wise’s neighbour in St Clements,
Nathaniel Whittock (no. 332). A note at the foot of the mount reads: ‘The
names of Mr. Wise’s two immediate neighbours were Parsons and Hunt. The three
firms thus read Wise Parsons Hunt.’
