UK UNION CATALOGUE OF CHINESE BOOKS

HELP

The top panel gives access to two browsable indexes: subjects and shelfmarks.

The records from US MARC sources usually have Library of Congress subject headings, and these should be entered in English, observing capitalisation where appropriate. The records from China MARC sources have National Library of China subject headings, and these should be entered in Chinese. Readers should note that not all records in the database contain subject headings, and that a search of this index will therefore not reveal the entire national stock in any given category.

The shelfmark index will probably be of more interest to librarians than readers. Shelfmarks should be entered in their correct form, observing capitalisation, spaces and punctuation where necessary.

The bottom panel enables searching to be done by standard numbers - ISBNs, ISSNs, and Chinese standard numbers. In the case of ISBNs and ISSNs, hyphens may be ignored, but in the case of Chinese standard numbers, if present they must be entered. All searches are truncated so that the term 7-101- (or 7101) will locate all books in the database published by Zhonghua Shuju.
