Objectives for this project are:

• to assess preservation and conservation needs for Asian documents in the UK

• to improve upon current knowledge of the preservation and conservation of Asian documents (particularly those items that require unusual handling or highly specialised conservation treatments)

• to encourage libraries to take measures to ensure the long-term survival of Asian documents in UK collections

• to ascertain gaps in conservation skills relating to Asian documents

• to share more effectively relevant specialised conservation skills both within and outside the UK

• to identify priorities in scientific research that will facilitate the conservation of Asian documents
